The postures of Surya Namaskar, the Sun Salutation-
2. Hasta Uttanasana:
The Posture: Stand with feet slightly apart, spine lifted, arms raised and stretched upwards and backwards; hips pushed slightly forward, eyes looking upward
The Breath: Deep Inhalation
The attitude: Opening up; reaching high, receiving; invoking the grace and power of the higher forces
The focus: Vishuddhi chakra or Throat center, expression of one’s uniqueness
The understanding: Open yourself, ‘ask and thou shall receive’; improving communication with others and self. Moving beyond pettiness of comparison.
The chant: om (hrim) ravaye namaha – ‘hrim’ being the beeja or seed syllable that is purely vibrational in nature.
The meaning: Salutations to Ravi, the Shining One,the bestower of radiance both within and out.
Benefits at the -
Physical Level: stretches and strengthens the muscles of the arms and the abdomen; tones the spine, improves the digestive and respiratory system.
Mental Level: Focuses the mind on the inhalation; prepares one for activity.
Energetic Level: Draws in the masculine or sky energy
Spiritual Level: Strengthens the ability to ask and receive.
